The Annual Report of gbs Grafschaft Bentheim
The Annual Report of gbs Grafschaft Bentheim
Every year, gbs County Bentheim produces a robust 120-page annual report.
Challenges
Overview and goals
Our gbs brings together a wide range of departments under one roof—from school management and general education subjects to project and service teams, as well as the various full-time schools. In addition, there are ten specialized teams—for instance, in construction and electrical engineering, hospitality and food technology, color technology and spatial design, cosmetics and hairdressing, and many other disciplines.
Lots of activities
Each school year, these teams implement an impressive variety of projects: from trade fair visits and retreats to international exchanges and competitions. In doing so, they create initiatives that may not immediately seem related to everyday school life, yet they showcase just how modern and practical education can be today.
The annual report
To highlight this breadth, gbs publishes a comprehensive annual report every year. In it, every area is presented with an overview of the past year’s events. This report is distributed not only to teachers and interested parties, but also to secondary schools and policy makers, with the aim of raising awareness of gbs and its offerings in the region.

Result
For the past three years, the annual report has been a 120-page publication featuring approximately 250 photos from 23 different departments.
At the start, we focused on the layout and the existing design elements.
Several page templates were created in Adobe InDesign and later combined to produce a dynamic overall layout.
Chapter by chapter, the annual report took shape with hundreds of photos and nearly as many contributions from the gbs team.
Adding cross-references to individual photos makes it significantly easier to locate related images.
Cut-out photos add visual variety to the layout.
Progress was shared with the gbs team via Excel – including links to proofs of the individual chapters (preliminary versions on which corrections can be made).
This approach ensures that everyone on the team stays on the same page, clearly seeing where something is missing, needs to be provided later, or which chapters are already completed.
The final annual report is distributed to secondary schools in the district, to those interested in the school, as well as to politicians and cooperation partners.
